According to the Colorado State Patrol, one person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a head-on crash early Sunday
The crash happened north of Boulder at about 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 36 and Neva Road. According to the state patrol, the vehicles involved were a 2006 Toyota and a 2013 Hyundai and the Toyota drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with the Hyundai, which was carrying two people.
The patrol went on to say that the passenger in the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Troopers then started an investigation of the crash and U.S. 36 was closed for about five hours after the incident.
Sgt. Rob Madden said that initial conclusions are that alcohol and drugs are suspected to be factors in the accident.
