According to police, a man died after he was hit by a truck in the west valley, between Las Verdes Street and Valley View Boulevard, at around 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Originally the police originally believed the man had been thrown from the vehicle but later discovered that the 57 year old contractor was working in the bus lane behind his 2001 Chevrolet which was parked.
He was then struck, and the wet saw he had in his hand flew off and hit another car. He died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a 2004 Ford F-150, was 41 year old Rafael Mendez-Soto and he ran away from the scene only to be discovered by police hiding in a nearby dumpster. He had minor injuries and was taken into custody, where he failed sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI resulting in death and for leaving the scene.
