On Friday afternoon there was a crash involving seven motorcycles on state Route 160.
According to Nevada Highway Patrol, the accident happened just before 2 p.m. five miles west of state Route 159 when seven motorcyclists were trying to pass an RV in pairs, each one on either side of the RV. The first motorcyclist pair slowed after passing the RV, which went on to cause a chain reaction collision between the three pairs.
The fifth and sixth riders were Kevin Rubio, aged 28, of North Las Vegas who died at the scene, and another man who was airlifted to University Medical Center in critical condition.
According to NHP, the last motorcyclist approaching tried to avoid the crash and slid off of the road and another rider crashed into a truck. Their names and conditions are not yet known. The accident caused the area to be closed for hours, and the only way drivers were able to get by was by driving on the shoulder.
Troopers said that at this time the crash remains under investigation, but it does look like speed and reckless driving played a factor.
The names of the other victims weren’t released by NHP.
